Private Events
Wedding Set-up
Weddings and other private gatherings are allowed on the grounds or in the historic church at Malakoff Diggins State Historic Park. All events require a Special Event Permit, which must be obtained in advance. Permits are available at the Gold Mines Sector Office at Empire Mine SHP. The permit process takes 6-8 weeks.
Events and weddings are scheduled on a first‑come, first‑serve basis during normal park hours. To avoid interfering with tours and other programs, events held during the summer are restricted to 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. or 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Please call the park for dates and times outside the summer season. Events will not be scheduled on major holidays or their associated weekends.
Private events are limited to 100 persons if held on the grounds or 60 persons if held in the church. A $100.00 deposit is required, which will be refunded if all requirements associated with the permit and park policies are met. In addition, a non‑refundable fee of $50.00 is charged to cover administrative costs. Other fees include $50.00 to reserve either the church or gazebo and $2.00 per car for parking.
Consideration should be given to the weather and the facilities. There are no areas reserved for dressing. The church has no restroom. Outdoor weddings and events may experience spring or fall snow showers or summer temperatures of 85‑90 degrees. Picnic tables are available in the North Bloomfield picnic area or the Skidmore House yard. Restrooms and running water are located near both areas.
No amplified music is allowed on the grounds. Parking is limited to 10 vehicles at the church and 25 vehicles at the North Bloomfield townsite, 1/4 mile south. Guests may need maps to reach the park and a person should be designated to direct guests. The parking situation may be inconvenient for guests with health problems. It is strongly recommended that arrangements be made to visit the park and talk with staff at least 6 weeks prior to the event.
