Learn How to Become a Volunteer in Nevada County’s Hidden Gem

Once your volunteer interest is piqued, prospective volunteers only need to attend one orientation Saturday block either Saturday, March 4th from 9:00am – 3:30 pm OR Saturday, March 11 from 9:00 – 3:30pm at Empire Mine State Historic Park Docent Room. The sign-up session will cover the role of California State Park volunteers, park policies, procedures and philosophy. Prospective volunteers will be guided through the hiring paperwork by park staff.

Since a background check is required prior to working as a State Park volunteer, there will be onsite finger printing conducted during each Saturday session. Prospective volunteers will need a photo ID and $10 check or cash for the background processing.

Kids Fishing Derby

Saturday – May 13, 2017
9 am – 2 pm

Kids ages 15 and under fish free while enjoying a fun-filled day of fishing at our beautiful Blair Lake with family and friends.  Not a fisherman or woman, don’t worry there will be plenty of volunteers to help and give tips throughout the day.

After you’re done fishing your fish are weighed and cleaned.  Kids will receive a free lunch and raffle ticket for great items donated by our many sponsors and throughout the day all can participate in games on our Skidmore Lawn, a short walk away from the lake.

Kids bring your fishing pole ready to catch the fish and chairs while you wait for the bite!  Space is limited so call the park early to sign up!  Registration begins March 1st.
